The World Cup, the World Championships and an absolute novelty – the Cape Epic – these are most important targets of Kross Racing Team for 2019. Rebuild Kornel Osicki’s team once again has very ambitious plans. During the next twelve months Polish squad would like to conquer not only the UCI rankings, but also another continents.
Compared to 2018, Kross Racing Team changed a lot. Jolanda Neff, Bartłomiej Wawak and Fabian Giger left the team and they were replaced by riders with a bit different profiles. Experienced and successfull competitors: Sergio Mantecón (Spain), Ariane Lüthi(Switzerland) and a bit younger, very promising Ondřej Cink (Czech Republic).
- Changes had beed dictated by few reasons. Most of all, we wanted to set a new goal and push existing boundaries a little – said Kornel Osicki, Kross Racing Team Manager. He also admitted, that there’s one, big challenge: Cape Epic. Located in South Africa, prestigious stage race. The best mountain bikers from around the world, compete in teams of two. It’s usually compared to the biggest road race - Tour The France.
- Cape Epic is a very challenging race, especially for us, as debiutants. It’s the hardest one in UCI calendar, with very demanding route. During eight days, our riders have to cover over 620 kilometers, usually in extreme weather conditions – said Osicki.
The taste of victory is known to Ariane Lüthi – new Kross Racing Team rider, who won it three times, in a duo with Annika Langvad (Denmark). Her experience can be the key factor to achieve some great results in Africa.
Also, men’s part of the team will take a part in the Cape Epic. – That’s the biggest stage race in the world - Champions League. I believe, that with my teammate, Ondřej Cink we can achieve a satysfying result. We are riders with a similar profile, so we can be dangerous rivals – said Sergio Mantecón.
Season 2019 is not the Cape Epic one only. Kross Racing Team will be also focused on the World Cup races and the World Championships.
- Our goal in the World Cup is a podium in general classification in female category and fight for the top three of every single race. Ondřej Cink and Sergio Mantecón are going to focus on places in top 10 – said Osicki, who also believes that his riders will be competetive during the World Championships. Kross Racing Team riders will also appear at MTB worlds marathon.
We’ll also see the Polish team in lower-ranked races around the Europe. First of them will be the Club La Santa 4 Stage (Lanzarote, Spain, 26-31 january). The national racing are also planed fot this year, espiecially the biggest Polish race - Jelenia Góra Trophy - Maja Włoszczowska MTB (1 june).
