There was plenty of sunshine and smiles in Val di Sole this past weekend for the KROSS Racing Team. After holding back an attack on the final lap, Joland Neff was able to secure victory at the last stop of the UCI MTB XCO World Cup. Her teammate, Maja Włoszczowska finished in third place behind Jana Belomoina. This double podium secured an overall UCI title as Best Women Team in the elite category.
The Swiss athlete is known for her strong starts, and Val di Sole was no different. Leading the pack from the start Jolanda led the way for the entire race having to hold back a few attacks throughout. Silver Olympic Medalist, Maja Wloszczowska moved into third place on the third lap but with relatively large gap to her closest competitors ahead. Trying to catch the leaders, Włoszczcowska also had to defend her position from Kalentieva who was close behind her. With her injured wrist, Włoszczowska was slower than usual on the downhill sections but made up the lost time with strong uphill climbs. On the fifth round Neff decided to pull away and began her sprint from Belomoina.
Jolanda Neff crossed the line 21 seconds ahead of Jana Belomoina and 1 minute in front of Maja Włoszczowska. Their next challenge will be fighting for the World Championship in Cairns, Australia in two weeks.
